Motivation and discipline each serve a purpose, but which would you rather have?
Motivation is usually strongest at the start of a project, or when we first set a new goal. That’s why it’s helpful for overcoming inertia and taking the first step. The excitement of doing something new, of finally taking action makes us feel unstoppable. We decide to get in shape, then go work out for an hour every day for a week straight. We commit to a new diet and cut out all junk food for a few weeks. We decide to start a blog, and crank out article after article during the first month.
But then what happens?
