I can’t go to commercial gyms any more. People just do too many things I can’t bear to watch.
Like letting their knees cave in when they squat. Or deadlifting with a rounded back. These people haven’t learned proper technique (or worse, they think what they’re doing is proper technique). I cringe thinking about the damage being done to their joints. Sadly, it’s only a matter of time before they get hurt.
You know what else makes me cringe?
People who wander into a gym and immediately start cranking out heavy sets without any warmup. Or those who show up to run a road race without doing anything more than a quick hamstring stretch beforehand. And a track team I know of that has their sprinters run an all-out timed mile as a warmup before every practice.
All of these people are doing it wrong. And their ignorance/apathy is going to get them hurt and keep them from performing their best. (Which is worse, ignorance or apathy? … Don’t know, don’t care!).
Fortunately, I know you’re smarter than that! I know you would never attempt a hard workout without warming up properly. But just in case you know someone who doesn’t warm up before working out, here’s what you should tell them…
